Isn't she just the most precious little thing
you've ever seen? I have so much to tell you, but I probably won't get to
finish now since this is Goldie's schedule precludes spending much time at the
computer. First, I want you to know, again, how happy we are with Goldie. She
is so beautiful and funny and in the short time we've had her, we can't imagine
what life was like before she came to live with us. From the moment we set eyes
on her at the airport, we were smitten. Thank you for what you do to breed
these magnificent puppies. Here are some milestones:
1. It took Goldie
less than 12 hours to realize that going potty is an outside event and that it
happens faster if she goes to the back door to tell us. We have had only 2-3
accidents and those were at times when I wasn't paying attention and she
couldn't wait. The accidents were at the back door where she was politely
waiting for SOMEone to notice.
2. Goldie already knows "come, " "Let's
go inside," and "kennel up." She also knows to run the other way like the
dickens when she's picked up something she's not supposed to have! (I told you
she was brilliant!)
3. She sleeps in her kennel at night and the last
two nights has only needed to get up once. The first two nights she wasn't very
happy there, but then when I moved it so that she could see the whole family
room, she settled right in.
4. We have two cats, Jack and Bijou. Bijou
is probably going to have a stroke because we got a dog, but Jack thinks he has
found a new playmate. You should see Goldie and Jack play. Somehow, Jack knows
she's a baby and lets her get away with jumping on him, nipping his tail, and
tackling him from behind. When he's had enough, he jumps on a chair and she
can't get him. And Goldie's in love with her "big brother." They lay together
on the floor and she lets him clean her face, she licks his ears and brings him
a toy. And at night, he sleeps right in front of her kennel. It is the most
awesome sight.
5. Goldie had her first vet visit on Friday. It took an
HOUR! Not because there was anything wrong with Goldie. On the contrary, the
vet proclaimed her in perfect health. The reason the visit took so long was
because her vet, Dr. Kue, is a small-dog lover and simply could NOT get enough
of her. He took her all over the clinic, called his wife and then waited for
her to come from down the street to see Goldie--while I had to wait in the
examining room! Then just held her on his lap while we talked. I told him that
if he was interested, I could "hook him up" with an excellent breeder. But
here's something you probably already know but which Dr. Kue told ME about
Goldie. (a) She has an incredible demeanor. He was so impressed with her calm
behavior and good nature. As a small-dog lover, he knows that small dogs are
often "hyper" or nippy or loud. He said that Goldie's temperament is unlike any
he's seen before! (b) Goldie's independence is remarkable for a puppy her age.
She is comfortable browsing around, will look up to see that Robin or I are
around, and keeps exploring. Dr. Kue said that's unusual for ANY puppy. (c)
Goldie is the picture of health. He commented on how clean her ears were, how
"nice" her stools were, and how she seemed to have no bad habits of any
kind. It was so nice to see him (and everyone) so excited about Goldie, and
I think you should know how great your dogs are.
6. We have had a LOT of
rain since Goldie arrived and since her bladder is the size of a pea, we get
wet a lot. But she loves being outside, loves to waddle through the grass, and
loves to watch the world go by. She's beginning to notice the birds and can
sometimes follow them across the sky or will look in the trees when she hears
them.
7. Mornings are our favorite time. She and I are early risers, so
at 5:30 we get up, I put on a pot of coffee and then she and I go outside for a
walk around the house. After she eats, we sit on the lanai and read the paper
or watch the birds. I have made it so that the lanai door doesn't close all the
way and when she has to potty, she merely stops what she's doing, pushes on the
door, bounces outside to do her thing, and then comes back in for some petting
and more quiet time. I am simply amazed!
8. And finally, my husband,
Robin, a certified "red neck" hunter/fisher/gatherer sort said, when he first
saw her at the airport, "She's a little small, isn't she? I thought I'd be able
to teach her tracking and take her into the woods." I told him as long as he
was only tracking moles or butterflies, that'd be OK. At any rate, I could
never have imagined how much he would love her. He tucks her in at night,
kisses her, cuddles her, talks to her all the time. It is so cute to watch them
together. When he's laying on the floor playing with Goldie, she thinks he's a
mountain and tries to climb up onto his belly. He'll lift her up, she nuzzle
his beard, and then fall asleep on his stomach---0unless he falls asleep, too,
and starts to snore.
I will write more later, but now Goldie wants to go
potty. Of COURSE she does! It's RAINING!
PS Thank you again and again. I
am writing a little "story" about Goldie and will send it to you when I
finish.
Your biggest FANS!
